Couples Care

By Leigh McDonald

Couples who choose to move into a care home often have different care needs. In many cases, this means being cared for individually, sometimes on different floors and units within the care home. This can enforce separation for a significant part of daily life.

Very few care homes offer a double bedroom for couples, especially if one person has dementia. This means sharing the same living space is unlikely; quite understandably, this is something many couples cannot comprehend.

Live-In Care: Keeping Couples Together

When faced with one or both of partners needing additional support, it can be a worrying time. Sometimes this is just due to the frailty of old age, but also where one person is living with a condition like dementia or Parkinson’s or requires stroke care or cancer care. We know from our experience the primary concern for couples in this situation is that they will be separated if they go into a residential care home. Live-in care keeps couples together, in the home they love.

Cost of Care
The cost of care is also an important consideration. The cost of two places in a care home is typically double the price of receiving high quality, live-in care at home. With live-in care there is only relatively small supplement for couples care depending on needs, so it is a very cost-effective alternative to moving into a care home for couples.

Tailored 1-1 Support
We can help you find the right companion that provides peace of mind whilst maximising independence in a safe, familiar and happy environment. Our long standing relationships are with care workers that have proven themselves in providing excellent care. With over 25 years in the care sector, we’ve also developed a highly selective recruitment process.

All our carers have extensive live in care experience, from companionship to complex dementia care. They are fully checked and vetted to Care Quality Commission standards. This includes Enhanced DBS checks, a full work history, multiple professional references and verified up-to-date training.

On top of all the mandatory and regulatory compliance checks, we look for people who are naturally caring, compassionate and uphold our values of trust and integrity.
