Become a Care Companion: A Rewarding Role with Real Flexibility

Are you someone who brings warmth, calm, and a steady presence into the lives of others? Do friends and family describe you as a good listener, someone who can be relied on, and who instinctively knows how to put people at ease?

At McDonald Homecare, we’re looking for emotionally mature, compassionate individuals to become Care Companions— offering practical support and genuine companionship to older clients in their own homes. If you're looking for fulfilling, flexible work that allows you to make a real difference, this could be the perfect role.

What Is a Care Companion?

At McDonald Homecare, we take a different approach to care. We believe that care should never feel rushed or task-driven. That’s why we refer to our visiting carers as Care Companions.

As a Care Companion, you’ll work with private clients in your local area, helping them remain independent in their own homes — while building genuine, long-term relationships along the way.

What the Role Involves

You’ll support older clients with day-to-day activities such as:

  • Meal preparation

  • Local outings or appointments

  • Medication prompts

  • Gentle mobility support

  • Personal care and hygiene

  • Light housekeeping

  • Most importantly: companionship and conversation

You’ll be carefully matched with clients based on personality, lifestyle, and location, allowing you to build your own client base and provide consistent, high-quality care.

Who We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for people who:

  • Have emotional maturity and real-world empathy

  • Are good communicators, who understand the value of patience and presence

  • Take initiative and work well independently

  • Have their own transport (essential for visiting clients and supporting with social outings)

  • Want to make a difference — not just fill time slots

Perhaps you’ve raised a family, supported elderly relatives, or worked in a community-focused role. What matters most is that you genuinely care.

A Different Kind of Care Role

We don’t believe in rushing from one visit to the next, with barely enough time to say hello.

Instead, our Care Companions spend quality time with clients — getting to know them, listening to their stories, and supporting them in ways that go far beyond a checklist.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Build working partnerships with clients and their families

  • Provide continuity that supports confidence and wellbeing

  • Collaborate with the wider care team to support arranging cover

It’s personal, meaningful work — and your contribution is truly valued.
